I’m A PRAGMATIC PROGRESSIVE.
I’M RUNNING FOR MY COMMUNITY.
WE NEED SOLUTIONS – NOT MORE POLITICAL BS.

My Plan:

PUBLIC EDUCATION IS UNDER ASSAULT.

Ryan Walters is at the helm. Oklahoma ranks near the bottom in spending for each student. This is a statewide emergency, and it’s crucial that we provide the essentials for both our students and educators to excel. When I’m your Senator, I’ll champion your child’s education. This means uniting students, parents, and educators with the necessary resources to foster a great learning environment, not banning books or engaging in pointless discussions that create division and distractions. Instead, our state must:

  • Attract and retain top-tier educators with salaries that compete.
  • Keep public dollars in public schools.
  • Secure a stable future for public teachers and schools.
  • Eliminate partisanship from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction position.
  • Empower voters by establishing an elected Board of Education.

IT’S TIME TO ACT ON HOUSING IN OKLAHOMA.

Oklahoma is well behind most other states on housing legislation. Tenants’ rights are essentially nonexistent and renter laws are skewed in favor of landlords. This compounds our state’s already widening houselessness crisis. Oklahoma deserves better, and our people deserve humane laws. For that to happen, we must shift our attention from profits for corporations and the wealthy and:

  • Pass an Oklahoma Tenants’ Bill of Rights that strikes a fair balance of responsibilities between tenant and landlord.
  • Ensure rent protections for people who have lower incomes.
  • Fix our lopsided eviction process.
  • Address the houselessness crisis with direct housing and self-care support, mental health services, and a multi-stage rehabilitation program.

OKLAHOMA MUST BE A PLACE WHERE ALL CAN THRIVE. 2SLGBTQ+ HATE HAS NO PLACE HERE.

With rampant, extreme anti-2SLGBTQ+ legislation and legislative proposals on the rise, our state must do more to rise to the standard of excellence. Oklahoma will never be a so-called “Top 10” state with hate on the agenda. As your State Senator, I will fight for basic human decency and accountability of our officials. In the year 2023 – and certainly by the 2026 general election – there should be no question that 2SLGBTQ+ rights are human rights. There is no room for disagreement here. We must:

  • Eradicate hate-based legislation wherever it exists.
  • Fight for legislation that supports and affirms our 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

JUSTICE FOR ALL = CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM.

The justice system in Oklahoma needs an overhaul to truly serve all its citizens fairly. ‘Justice for All’ should be more than just a catchphrase—it should be a reality we actively pursue. As your State Senator, I’ll be at the forefront of pushing for comprehensive criminal justice reform.

  • Advocate for sentencing reforms to reduce mass incarceration.
  • Work to eliminate cash bail, which disproportionately impacts low-income communities.
  • Clean up statutory language to better serve all Oklahomans involved in the legal system.

WE MUST WORK TO INCREASE VOTER TURNOUT; PROTECT DEMOCRACY AT THE STATE LEVEL; And Grow the Democratic Party!

Oklahoma has historically low voter participation rates, which weakens our democracy. We need to take steps to boost voter turnout and safeguard our democratic institutions. As your Senator, I’ll be an advocate for a stronger democracy—ensuring that every Oklahoman has easy access to the voting booth and that our elections are secure and fair. At the Capitol, I will fight to:

  • Strengthen Vote By Mail and extend the Early Voting window.
  • Start a multilingual Voter Guidebook program with neutral-language information on each candidate and state question, mailed to each voter in the state.
  • Make Election Day a state holiday with guaranteed workplace leave.
  • Partner with and mobilize community outreach programs to encourage voter turnout.
  • Engage younger voters and expand voter registration efforts.
  • Increase outreach initiatives to under-engaged communities.

EXPAND DRIVER’S LICENSE ELIGIBILITY

Let’s join over 20 states and D.C. by allowing all Oklahoma taxpayers to get driver’s licenses, which will:

  • Let ~33,000 people get auto insurance and fully participate in our state’s economy.
  • Increase state revenue by $50MM.
  • Reduce car insurance premiums for all Oklahomans by $40MM.

OUR NEIGHBORHOODS DESERVE WORLD-CLASS MENTAL HEALTH CARE & SUBSTANCE USE RECOVERY.

Oklahoma communities face significant challenges when it comes to mental health and substance use recovery services. Health care shouldn’t be a luxury—it should be a given. As your State Senator, I’ll work tirelessly to make mental health care and substance use recovery programs a real priority – easily accessible to Oklahoma’s communities. As your Senator, I will:

  • Advocate for increased funding for mental health services, including evidence-based, compassionate substance use recovery programs.
  • Build community partnerships with organizations specializing in mental health and substance use care.

BE A CHAMPION FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

and HEALTH CARE.

As your State Senator, I will:

  • Fight for reproductive rights in a post-Roe America and defend health care for all.
  • Work to ensure everyone has access to affordable health care.
